8th of March is Women’s day in Ukraine

Today, there is no International Women’s Day (March 8 ) on the calendar of the democratic and independent Ukraine. Orthodox Christians have never recognized this “holiday” at all; they affirm that they have another day that is the The Myrrhbearers, which is celebrated on the second Sunday after the Resurrection. Nowadays, almost no one remembers the Bolshevik ideological load of the day of March 8. Today, The 8-th of March is an occasion to talk about a woman and recall her historical role in society. Women have always occupied a special place in Ukrainian/Russian history.

I translated one greeting devoted to the women in International Women’s Day. This greeting is a vivid example of how Ukrainian and Russian women are treated in this special day by men.

Dear Women!
Our mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters!

We heartily congratulate you on the spring holiday, International Day March 8!

Life. Love. Woman. Understanding the great laws of life begins with these words for every man.

We (men) rule the countries’ fates, govern in politics and diplomacy, design and send the spaceships in space, build factories and plants. However, in the most difficult moment, we go for help to the mother, grandmother, wife, and sister. We are looking for rest in the comfort of home.

The kind word of involvement and support, gentle touch of warm hands to the cheek, native eyes full of compassion and understanding are those things that help us to live, fight, and win, even if men do not always admit it.

Thank you, our dear women, for the boundless kindness, generosity of heart, for the ability to make our world to be bright, joyful, and spring. Thanks for the highest demands that you put on us forcing each of us to be a knight and creator.

Spring delights us with bright colors. It seems it is permeated with light, warmth, and love. We wish you to have this light, this warmth and this love as much as possible. Today, tomorrow, and always.

There is difficult time for all of us. Nevertheless, for you, our loved ones, our wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters, we will do everything to make today of yours and tomorrow of our children to be bright and joyful.

It will be, namely, like this. We are sure in this as we all are confident that, after a long cold winter, the spring will come.

Congratulations, dear women!

On this day it is a good tradition for Ukrainian men to give the mothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends, daughters, and colleagues flowers and small gifts. However, you should know that the custom of giving women flowers still prevails.
