Collapse of the Marriage Institution

The last two decades can be named as the beginning of the era of collapse of the marriage institution. More and more young people refuse to burden themselves with family. More and more women refuse to marry and give a birth. In mass media, this phenomenon is called the crisis of family relations. However, there are hidden and passed over in silence by mass media reasons behind the word “crisis”.

Our time is characterized by social upheavals and sexual revolutions. But, no matter how the world is shaken, it can’t change the nature of men and women. Women as the offspring producers have been borne and bear the desire to create the most comfortable living conditions for future children and for themselves. As to the men, the nature gave them a feature that makes them to fulfill women’s desires and whims, protect and preserve their family.

Thus, where did the failure in the harmonious combination of masculine and feminine nature occur? If reproduction was the constant dominant desire of people, then nowadays relationship between man and woman would not differ from the times of primitive society.

Marriage and family’s problems rooted in the fact that a person is continuously developing creature. Moreover, this creature has constantly generated new desires that need to be fulfilled. Various passions are raging in modern society such as more money, more fame, honor, respect, more autonomy and independence. Furthermore, a race for prestige is encouraged namely by women who don’t leave the hopes to lead this race someday. Maybe that is why, a century ago, it was organized a feminist movement to free women from “domestic slavery” and give her the opportunity to participate fully in all spheres of society.

Success in building a society, where women enjoy the unconditional protection and preferential rights, led to a paradoxical result. Woman lost not only the attractiveness to men as long-term partner but also an interest in family lifestyles. It happened naturally; rearranging the society to fit their own interests, feminists have simply created a model of an ideal man. All the institutions of modern society, from the hospital and school to the courts and police, took over the tasks that need to be performed by man.

In this scenario, woman feels completely independent and doesn’t dependent on “own” man. She can successfully compete with him in any area. Such an emancipated lady doesn’t need any masculine force at all. In their own turn, the male part of the population does not want to associate themselves with completely self-sufficient and well-protected females. It contradicts the very essence of man’s nature. Thus, instead of a strong family, we have received artificial formation consisting of individuals of the opposite sex who do not need each other.

“You can not enter into the same river twice,” the sage said, and he was right. It is impossible to turn back to the old way of family life. There is a need to restructure the public consciousness in the understanding of how to build family relationships. There is no need to change the nature, as it is able to retaliate. Let us learn to live in such a way that man and woman equally supplement each other, equally feel their responsibility towards society. As there is no society without family, so there is no happy future without a happy family.
